Chronicles: A Jewish Life At the Classical Piano

In his 50’s, Moshe Cotel followed a calling to enter Rabbinical school. Following his ordination as a rabbi in 2003, he wrote a one-man show called Chronicles: A Jewish Life at the Classical Piano, which had over 80 performances in more than 20 cities across the United States from New York to Los Angeles, and as far as Hawaii.

This unique show features a series of monologues about the intersection of Judaism and classical music, followed by piano pieces from the classical repertoire that illustrate those teachings, by composers from Bach to Mozart to Rachmaninoff. Hailed by critics as “masterful,” “uplifting” and “an exquisite performance,” it was described as “a work that reveals deeper and deeper meaning upon each listening.”

The success of Chronicles was followed by a sequel, Chronicles II: More Lessons From a Jewish Life at the Classical Piano, with a premiere sponsored by the Jewish Music Commission of Los Angeles.

Both Chronicles and Chronicles II were conceived, written, and performed by Moshe Cotel.
